Don’t you just love this time of year? Spring is in the air, the days are getting longer and everyone seems just that bit happier…oh how we miss our Vitamin D in the winter!

Now is when the anticipation of summer and the joys of outdoor living come to mind – and smart homemakers have long realised the benefits of pre-planning at this time of year to ensure their stylish outdoors are ready to use the moment the temperature rises.

Through classic styling and romantic influences, Lene Bjerre is one of the Occa Design Team’s favourite collections for Spring Summer 13. Capturing the essence of simple Danish design and the urge to enjoy summer on the terrace or in the garden, it’s full of must have pieces for the season ahead.

“I can’t wait to get the garden ready for summer” says Kate “and I’m completely spoilt for choice with the new SS13 Lene Bjerre Collection. This Scandinavia Black Bench is top of my list – especially with the clever storage space under, perfect  for keeping my cushion fetish in check!”

The bench is shown above paired with a classic mix of navy, white and taupe cushions complimented by a gorgeous layer of cable knit for texture. Add some nickel lanterns and stone oil lamps for a sophisticated and relaxed mood.

Simplicity and style are what Danish design is famous for and the Georgina Rattan and Gardenia Metal collections are lovely examples of this. Inspiration for these ranges is borrowed from the traditional crafts of former French colonies and adapted to suit the simpler Danish design approach – and harsher climate of Northern Europe. The result is a timeless rustic look that is equally at home in contemporary or traditional surroundings.

“Add linen seat cushions and an eclectic mix of cushions and throws in different materials and textures to get the look, keeping a common base colour or two in each piece to tie it all together” suggests Kate “in this case, blue & taupe are in every accessory.”

Denmark is also known for its vintage Madam Blue enamelware and Lene Bjerre’s beautifully romantic SS13 Kitchen collection takes its influence from this famous Danish design, with its many shades of blue being key.  A signature style for classic entertaining, this collection oozes effortless chic and a timeless appeal. How lovely to sit down on a summer’s afternoon to lunch at this table?!

Get the look for a relaxed lunch in the garden by placing the Adeline Rose Blue table cloth centre stage. Layer your table top with plates from our Vera Wang collection, combined with Lene Bjerre’s blue and white stripped Molly ceramics. “Personalise things” advises Kate ” for example, use the Molly jug as an impromptu vase. Fill it with a simple posy of white gerbera and blue sea holly or other flowers that you love.”

The stunning Waldorf wine and water glasses add a touch of stylish opulence to this table top and silver accessories bring contrast and sparkle. The addition of tall candle sticks add to the romanticism, with silver serving dishes & cutlery keeping it timeless.

Holidays, good weather, outdoor entertaining and eggs – Easter is a great time of year for refreshing your kitchen style and letting the outdoors in. We’re loving the vintage style of the Lene Bjerre crockery and kitchen storage solutions. Influenced by apothecary and 18th century horticulture, the Moline & Martine collections create a fresh, stylish and original look that will bring character and charm to your kitchen. Mix it up with the beautiful Coco Blue cotton placemats and basket liners for a chic romantic edge and use the Molly ceramic bottles to beautiful present oils and vinegars and other condiments.

Blue and white not for you? Go for natural tones and a softer pallet to give your kitchen and dining table a sophisticated finish. The Molly Cement collection has all the charm of the Molly Blue collection, in neutral taupes, that bring an elegant appeal to your table top and kitchen accessories.

To get this look for an informal supper, take the Adeline Rose table cloth in White / Cement and mix with the fresh white cotton Coco White placemats and napkins. Add some Molly Cement striped bowls, the Molly Cement pretty floral jug and Molly ceramic tumblers in cement. For a finishing touch, the delicately patterned Waldorf wine glasses complete the look, leaving you to enjoy entertaining friends and family in style.
