There’s lots of elements to consider… music, drinks, nibbles… and as any seasoned entertainer knows, when to comes to hosting the perfect New Year’s Eve bash having the right glassware to hand will ensure your guests can toast the New Year in style. To help make life a little bit easier, our designers share their top picks of designer glassware, champagne buckets and barware to make this New Year’s Party your best ever!
When throwing a party it’s the finishing touches that make it a success, so don’t let your glassware let you down. Whether it’s shaken, stirred or popped, having the appropriate glass for your guests drink is a must. You’ve invested in some delicious libations, fine wines and exceptional champagnes so it makes sense to serve them in stylish glassware that compliments your theme. Metallics are always a popular colour theme for New Year celebrations and complements plain or cut glassware, silver tealights and crisp white linen to elegant effect. Glassware is an essential ingredient in the hospitality industry and is a key feature when designing hotels and restaurants. That’s why the selection of designer glassware at Occa-Home rivals leading 5 star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants, perfect for the home for everyday use and special occasions. If your event has a cool and contemporary edge, we love the eye catching Eva Solo Sauvignon Blanc Wine Glass with its 14 degree angled rim. Similarly the sleek range of Wine Glasses from Salt and Pepper are elegant and luxurious with a generous bowl and thin stem. To compliment your wine glass selection, Eva Solo’s martini glasses and beer glasses each have their own unique designer edge as well.
Glassware is not the only essential ingredient for a slick event… take time to co-ordindate your champagne flutes, ice buckets and serving carafes to convey the look and feel of the party. As the evening’s celebrations kick into gear, keep the momentum going and the drinks flowing with generously stacked champagne and buckets and coolers for your bottled beer. For a Luxe look, think beautiful silver champagne buckets and urns from Eichholtz or Sambonet displayed on your console tables, islands or dining tables – it’s a look you’ll see in the chicest bars and restaurants. For the more contemporary, our go-to collections include LSA and Andrea House.
If you’re bringing in the New Year in a flourish of festivity and colour, the Nina Campbell coloured glassware collection is a must! Colourful glassware makes a statement on white table linens; you can even mix and match colours to create an eclectic look that’s fresh and vibrant. Go a step further and accessorise your coloured glassware with eye catching LSA Globes piled high in a vase or a bowl – it makes for a perfect table centre piece. When it come to the end of the night and the ritual rendition of Auld Lang Syne… why not toast the old days with an assortment of coloured shot glasses, like LSA’s Coro Shot Glasses… we’re sure The Bard himself would love it!
For a more luxurious affair the Vera Wang Crystal Duchesse crystal glassware collection is a timeless, yet modern take on classic cut crystal. Hand-crafted in fine crystal the sleek designs bring a touch of sparkle and are as delightful in the hand as they are on the lips. It’s the type of designer glassware you might expect to find in a traditional gentleman’s club or exclusive country house hotel. Complement this with the Vera Wang Crystal Duchesse Highball for soft drinks, gin & tonics or with the Duchesse Champagne Flute Set for the ladies. Alternatively, for a more intimate affair pour deux, why not raise a glass to the New Year with Vera Wang’s Love Gift Toasting Flutes, made from the finest crystal and delicately accentuated by silver bands. The Sophie Conran For Royal Worcester is another favourite Luxe look, perfect for special events and celebrations with it’s modern vintage feel; each classic champagne saucer has been hand cut and features a wisplike spiral design that is captivating and unique. For those who like to entertain on a more elaborate scale, the Versace glassware collection is a must, the Arabesque Crystal Glassware range includes champagne flutes, tumblers, hi-balls and decanters, each with a decadent feel and striking presence.

A New Year toast would not be complete without a dram or two of whisky and we’re pleased to say the whisky glass has had a modern makeover by our favourite Nordic designers. The Normann Copenhagen Whiskey and Cognac glasses are a firm favourite with our esteemed spirit and cognac connoisseurs for their attention to detail, as Rikke Hagen the designer explains: “I wanted to design a cognac glass. The perfect gift for the man who has everything. The inspiration comes from my own perception of when you drink a cognac; when you have the time in calm surroundings. I wanted the glass to give the user a feeling of a gentleman’s study and at the same time, the sense of calmness you get when you e.g. fondle a stone. The stem kept irritating me. I took the consequence and cut it off. That’s how my Cognac Glass was born. It seemed obvious to make a smaller version for liqueur. The Liqueur Glass is the perfect gift for women and I often use it myself when I have my girlfriends over for a cosy evening.”
With the glassware now in hand, it’s important to consider the storage and serving temperature of your wine. A designer carafe not only aerates your wine, letting it breathe bringing out its flavours, but also acts as a stylish focal point to your drinks table too. We love Sagaform’s curvaceous Wine Carafe with an Oak stopper for a chic everyday touch to your table arrangement. Or for a more special occasion or celebration the L’Atelier Du Vin’s silver decanter, manufactured in a top quality crystalline glass with a silver mirror finish is simply stunning. Similarly, the L’Atelier Du Vin’s Pourer leaf is a must-have, not only will it oxygenate your wine, but will also prevent any drips appearing on your table linen thanks to it’s handy controlled serving spout.
